The lyrics are based on my essay on superior taste. The first half addresses Theodor Adorno’s observation that the entertainment industry deprives us of autonomy and Pierre Bourdieu’s view that taste is more reflective of one’s social class rather than one’s uniqueness. The second half counters this by noticing how technology provides artists the means of production and even gives the poor access to all kinds of high and low culture. I make the argument that technology may give musicians a marxist liberation through capitalist means.
